Three wolpertinger rodent types feast on a dish of pork and dumplings know locally as Bauernschmaus or farmers feast. Austrian; pork loin chops, bacon, and sausages cooked in beer with sauerkraut, grated raw potato, and seasoning.

After coming across them on numerous wanderings through the alps, but never really getting a good look at one, I finally managed to capture a few shots near the Königssee by luring a small pack out of a spruce thicket to nibble on my lunch of bauernschmaus. They represent the uncategorized and undiscovered in nature and landscape painting. They hint at what could be should one get lost down the wrong track, not having all the answers, like why and how these places are the way they are? This is what draws me to paint them in the romantic tradition.

Work shown in the Abyssal Wolpertinger show at Medcalf Gallery.
